You told the truth when you could of lied.

Within the walls of the Old City, Dubrovnik felt like an entrapment of untouched society. Captivating and exquisite, Dubrovnik fails to disappoint anyone that ventures within the walls. Surrounded by still water and amazing beaches, it's very hard to say you want to leave. Your head says you have to, but your heart refuses to let go.

At night, the view of the city is breathtaking. With the wind blowing in your face, the boat bouncing against the waves, the sunset as a faded backdrop, you are slowly invited to a place that fills the heart with awe as you get closer and closer. Magnificent.

Alleys, alleys and lots of alleys.

Walking up to walk around the city walls.

Picturesque water.

One of my favourite shots - a girl floating in the sea.

The only still shot I could get on the boat.

Something about Pony

A few years back ... I read an article in VICE Magazine that pretty much scarred me for life. This article will pop up in my mind every now and then and conjure a lot of anger and frustrations. Not only because we all can't save the world but also that fact that we live in a sick sad one where us humans are pretty fucked up in so many ways. Putting aside the superficiality of online shopping ... I decided to revisit this article again. Stupidly enough, I even made myself YouTube it out of curiosity and found a documentary that had images relating to this article in motion. Pretty upsetting and disturbing.

--------------

Vice: So tell us about Pony.

Michelle Desilets [Director of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation]: Pony is an orangutan from a prostitute village in Borneo. We found her chained to a wall, lying on a mattress. She had been shaved all over her body.

I want to cry.

If a man walked near her, she would turn herself around, present herself, and start gyrating and going through the motions. She was being used as a sex slave. She was probably about six or seven years old when we rescued her, but she had been held captive by a madam for a long time. The madam refused to give up the animal because everyone loved Pony and she was a big part of their income. They also thought Pony was lucky, as she would pick winning lottery numbers.

Did the clients realize that they were in fact getting an orangutan?

Oh yeah, they would come in especially for it. You could choose a human if you preferred, but it was a novelty for many of the men to have sex with an orangutan. They shaved her every other day, which meant that her skin had all these pimples and was very irritated. The mosquitoes would get to her very badly and the bites would become septic and be very infected, as she would scratch them constantly. They would put rings and necklaces on her. She was absolutely hideous to look at.

How did you get her away from there?

It took us over a year to rescue her, because every time we went in with forest police and local officers we would be overpowered by the villagers, who simply would not give her up. They would threaten us with guns and knives with poison on them. In the end it took 35 policemen armed with AK-47s and other weaponry going in there and demanding that they hand over Pony. It was filmed by a local television crew and in the background of the film when we are unchaining Pony you can hear the madam crying hysterically, screaming, “They are taking my baby, you can’t do this!” There is no law enforcement in Indonesia so these people didn’t face any sentence or anything for what they had done.

--------------

The footage I saw was pretty much as described minus the raping part obviously. And yes, there are so many factors that come into this, but if you're an animal lover you will probably feel the same as I do.

Check out the BOS website. (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation) and do something nice this Christmas and stop the web surfing for two minutes and donate $2 or something (a bottle of water). $2 is nothing these days ... and every change counts!

Paris vs. New York

I've never been to New York. Soon though, but I've been to Paris. I am pretty sure most of you have seen this website, or at least stumbled upon one of these images. It's pretty cute and super funny. Oh the irony ...

Here are a few of my favourites.

The rest can be seen HERE.

Enjoy!

Little Dragon

On Wednesday night a friend and I including Anne had the great chance to see the band Little Dragon. The venue a small old Latin club transformed itself to feature this awesome Swedish band. Supporting Gorillaz on their Australian tour, Little Dragon's strong vocal and mellow beats proved to be one worth seeing.

Seeing them live was a completely unexpected experience. To see all members work as one is truly amazing. The sideshow was a big jamming session more than a concert performing show of their popular tracks, and the venue provided us with a more intimate experience with fans being really close with no barricade to block us. We ended up staying back to congratulate the band for their awesome set and stealing the drummer's sticks, but I felt too much of a groupie or maybe the fact that I was pretty drunk happy and excited and speechless at the same time it was suggested that we leave.

So much fun and super freaking amazing!

Athens & Santorini

It's getting harder and harder for me to write about my travel experiences the longer I get stuck into routine back at home. And I am trying to remember all the good bits and pieces ...

All I remember from Athens was, the heat. It was ridiculous but nice. Maybe because I was in Athens ... and the excitement of being stuck on Santorini island for a few days was just too much that I didn't care much about Athens. However, we were here for a day and yes, there's a lot of tourist spots but amazing none the less. I remember the view of Athens had this musky, yellow, dirty feel which is only obviously seen from above of the Acropolis.

Santorini ... what you've heard/read is probably true. See for yourself ...

Santorini,

Yeah, the images have been slightly edited. :)

She Just Likes To Fight

It is said the contraceptive pill makes you a bit crazy, looney, emo ... all of the above. True or False?

Anyway, finally got the chance to listen to this album and this is my favourite track so far. It's so chilled. Not sure about the title though. Enjoy.

Something a little personal.

So I figured when I started this blogging thing, it'd be a blog about what I like, what I'm into, what I find interesting and what I do.

But the "do" bit is a little scarce or a little private or whatever you want to call it. I've been blogging for a while now, and I guess I wanted a new direction with this thing which was a little less personal. But then to engage with you, I have to give a little and get a little as oppose to just say a little or much or nothing.

At the moment I am currently working on a few projects to hopefully help me out next year with my career direction. At the moment I am still a student still completing university. On the side, I work retail to pay my Europe debt and some of my monthly bills. I may look like I am 21, but you'll be surprised. I have an eBay vintage store only because I like vintage clothing, but don't really like wearing vintage clothing. (I used to, not anymore but the shopping and finding good finds is fairly addictive!)

Things have been busy especially to the lead up of 2011. (birthdays, Christmas parties, birthdays, Parties, Gigs, birthdays ... ) And I hope by 2011 things on my goal list would have been ticked off.

So ... that's all I've pretty much have to say. Thanks for reading. :)

I SNAP U.

Not many of my friends who had travelled to Europe had enough time to visit Stockholm. All the stories you hear about Swedish people are like models everywhere you turn with their super stylish clothing is all true. ( I think the guy-friend and I had a discussion about the cost of a Maccas meal and how expensive it is in comparison to Australia, and we both concluded that we were paying to be served by beautiful people ... which was totally worth it and it had nothing to do with currency exchange rate at the time - haha!)

Anyway, as we were shopping we happened to pick up this cute little magazine - "I SNAP U" to flip through on our journey later and keep as a souvenir. Turns out, the magazine is one of those public style photo magz like Fruits Magazine, except it's based in Stockholm and it's free and full of beautiful Swedish people and their super cool style. I ended up flipping through the pages over and over again, wanting to imitate but contemplating the "pull off" questions that came after. Can I or can't I?

I'm glad I have a hard copy of their first issue to keep, but I'm also glad that they have a downloadable version of their past issues and current for all to see! Check it out ... ISSUE1 & ISSUE2& WEBSITE

Italy

Because I crammed so many cities in my three months stay within Europe, especially within the first 6 weeks it's kind of hard to remember what I exactly did in Italy.

All I know was that I wasn't a big fan of Rome. With locals telling us to hide our cameras, being careful with gypsies trying to scam money out of you along with the transport system being absolutely freaking fail. (Actually, better then Sydney but still fail in comparison to the rest of Europe.) The only good thing that came out of it was the bruschetta. I think I will need a local to take me about and maybe a longer stay preferably not in the peak of tourist season where Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps were swarmed with tourists.

Yet one of my highlights of Italy was Sorrento. I had the great opportunity to hire a car and drive along Amalfi coast, visiting Positano, Salerno and Amalfi. Kinda crazy with one way routes there and back, crazy motor cyclists and huge buses that take up an entire lane. But the views were amazing, breath taking and totally memorable making it totally worth it! I don't think I know anyone who has been to Europe and done this and I highly recommend it because I can't say anything else but for you to go and see yourself.

With amazing food (I had the most awesome lasagna and bolognese in Sorrento) and serene surroundings makes it totally understandable why Mr Clooney is supposedly bound to this area.
