Edinburgh & North Berwick

If you've ever been to The Argyle at The Rocks, Sydney then imagine the entire CDB with dimmed lights, cobble stones, and stone walls. On arrival of this city, all of us were pretty much amazed and intrigued by the dark streets, alleyways and tall stone buildings. It seemed that every building and corner had its own haunted tale.

We spent two days in Scotland, one in Edinburgh and a day trip out to North Berwick, a coastal town a hour and a half away.

The difference between the two would most likely be the weather. Edinburgh - rainy, cloudy and cold accommodated the architecture of gargoyles, churches and the castle. North Berwick - windy, sunny and hues of blue and yellow with the picturesque landscape of the sea. To me it felt like a retirement village, so relaxed and peaceful.

Every single time you visit a city you like, you wish you stayed longer. The contrast between the two towns visited made it more reason to go back and see what the rest of Scotland has to offer. It's a very interesting place with a very different English history. I loved it.

Hawks Nest

A bunch of us girls had arranged a weekend away up to Hawks Nest. The entire weekend consisted of lots of eating ... eating, beer drinking, eating and more beer drinking. We had a complimentary holiday house that was down the road of a beautiful lake and only a 5minute drive to the beach.

The house we stayed in was pretty much an antique. The interiors were a bit of a time warp consisting of furniture from the 80's, a TV in a wooden frame, a Commodore 64, a shelving of "Better Homes & Gardens" dating back to 1991 and the little odd knick-knacks here and there.

I had the opportunity to capture this amazing sunset, a rare sight and the beautiful beach ... before the rain came in.

Looking forward to the spring/summer festivities.

La Bolleur

Whilst I was staying in Eindhoven, Holland for 2.5 weeks I met some very interesting people with all different talents. One of them being a creative group called La Bolleur that specializes in installations and revamping a space where people could just basically meet.

The opening chapter for this group started as taking an abandoned space and transforming it to a club. In this case, this space was a strip joint and brothel where the previous owner just basically picked up his stuff and left. Everything was left behind though ... the bedrooms, the poles and the neon floors. La Bolleur took what was left and made it their own.

Over the years the venue for these meetings changed, and whilst in Holland I never really got the opportunity to attend one of their parties, however, I did get the chance to check out their squatted farmhouse in the city center of Eindhoven having casual drinks.

What I love about their story was the brand they created, the processes throughout, the transformations within and the direction they took to communicate their brand to build recognition ... to the point of winning an award.

London

Because of limited internet access overseas and the fact that it's taken me a week and more to finally settle back into routine in Sydney, my online travel journal has been completely lagged.

This is my attempt to remember the things I loved about each city I visited within the three months of travelling - the first being London.

I stayed here for four days when I first arrived in Europe and another two at the end of my trip. The second time round proved to me more enjoyable only because it felt like I was familiar with it more and it really is like Sydney except with the congestion and what felt like the population of Hong Kong within the city center. Kind of annoying but not, only because well ... it's London, and I was probably the furthest away from home at that point anyway.

Although I didn't see any famous celebrities as much as I hoped, I did see some inspiring things. We also did a day trip to Stonehenge for obvious reasons and it was totally remarkable.

Weekend

First week back in Sydney meant a lot of catch ups here and there and wired sleeping patterns.

The guy friend has come back from the Europe trip with a stop over in Singapore on the way back. With the intention of staying in, the night ended up with a few good games of UNO mixed in with alcohol beverages.

Next thing you know ... we're walking along Oxford St, streets empty, clubs closing ...

All in all it was a good night resulting to us seeing the sun come up ... ugh.

Hello World ... again.

It's taken me a while to finally get back into this blogging thing. I guess there were a few incidents that happened throughout 2009 which slumped me into a big big hole and caused a lot of stress, to the point where it became too personal to even write about.

A year later, I'm here again ... doing what everybody is doing. I just got back from a 3 month trip from Europe and I'm ready to show the world my world ... again.

Enjoy.
