The only memories I have of Brussels is that it is like Paris ... but less congested. Everybody speaks French or ... Dutch and it's a lot more sensible or corporate? It is the capital of the EU after all.
They live up to their name with the Belgian sweets. Ever tried Guylian waffles? They're about $18 for two slices, a bit of cream and syrup on the side with strawberries coated with icing sugar. Beligan waffles? Yeah ... they're literally on every corner and cost about €3. A lot more lighter and fluffier and not as heavy like Max Brenner and you can literally eat about 5 of these.
Another thing I recall is their frites (fries). When I first had these in Croatia, Holland ... I really didn't understand the big fuss? Had these in Brussels and my life changed. Not really. I think the Belgians invented these cone shaped take away holders with assorted topping. The classic way is with mayo and their mayo is something like the Japanese mayo. I told myself that I wouldn't have these everyday, but because I was there for two days only alone ... I figured I might as well take the advantage of these frites. They're a lot more crunchy, and not even that oily ... I have no idea, they're just really awesome! And the toppings well the last time I had it I mixed it with curry sauce and onions. Awesome snack.
Mussels from Brussels ... yeah they're pretty freaking amazing. You get a bowl of frites on the side. And I pretty much demolished my mussels and the sauce/soup thing it comes with. They don't taste like the sea. And they're the right size. Not too small or not too big. Perfect. Amazing. Delicious.
Brussels is known for its Art Nouveau buildings. I did a whole lot of walking hunting these down. Whilst finding these buildings I went through a lot of streets that had amazing amazing houses. They were a mixture of the ones in Amsterdam (tall and next to each other) and the ones you see in pictures of San Fransisco (wide).
