Holland you were magnificent.

Holland is a fairly small country. It takes approximately 4hrs to drive from one end to the other. I was born in Brunssum, a farm town full Dutch bogans, minus the racism (hopefully) located further south of Amsterdam. I never got to revisit my birth place because of the long drive. During my time here, I spent most of it in Eindhoven - the booming design hub of Holland.

Because I really can't be bothered sharing my entire experience with you word for word, here's a few snippets of my Dutch escape.

Spotted windmill on the drive somewhere, Albert Hein supermarket with self scanner buzzers, indoor skate park, squatting in a gym, Gijs Kast illustrative collaboration exhibition, design exhibition in an old Phillips manufacturing warehouse, EFTELING Theme Park, alley of some wealthy suburbia, Amsterdam.

Earth.

These images, created by Marco Suarez, is what reminds me of Earth. If you've seen any of the BBC's Earth documentaries you would know what I am referring to. However, the colour composition does remind me of a fantasy set say like ... Lord Of The Rings. Either way, the aerial, landscape and perspective view with the whole circle thing and restrictive view is what gets me.

Love it or hate it, I love it.

Sweet dreams.

Lately I've been having bizarre crazy dreams about the real life world mixed with images that I have either seen in the past, the present, the internet, the cinema or in print.

One of these crazy dreams resulted in me hiding my syringes and sachets of heroin from the world. Kind of startling because I have never touched the stuff ... ever, yet the whole dream felt like scenes of Candy, Wonderland and Spun.

I guess what I will always find intriguing is the down spiral that people put themselves in when they're introduced to any type of illegal substance. Addicted or not. Control or no control. The opinions and reasons as to why they do it - I will always find interesting.

I love Larry Clark's work. It's so fucked up in so many ways, yet captivating and so raw.

Berlin! Berlin!

There is an extensive history behind the city of Berlin and it's pretty much obvious through the streets everywhere you walk.

Although, I have to say that when I got back from Europe, Berlin was one of the cities that I documented well, but was stupid enough to format my SD card whilst back here resulting to no images at all. Kind of sad, but not because I know I'll come back to visit the city again. Preferably with more friends, only so I could venture out into the dark alleys and find ourselves in a random bar with awesome music and just chill.

From the Holocaust Memorial Museum, Checkpoint Charlie, The Berlin Wall and Sachsenhausen - the first concentration camp, and only 30min away from the city center ... makes you marvel over the idea that these events only happened 60 years ago.

I finally developed the film from my lomo. And because of my failed attempt at relishing my digital photos, these are the only physical memories I have of Berlin.

The Berlin Wall - art pieces drawn by people all over the world.

A Jewish synagog. I think. Can't remember.

On the way to the concentration camp.

This place was filled with death. It was kind of sad and eerie. These logs were placed here to cover up the scars of murder where I think most Jews were pretty much shot in the head or burned.

Ready or Not.

"Lauryn Hill, please please come back and save us from Rihanna, Beyonce and Ciara. Bring back the true meaning of music and quality music. You always brought life to the words you sang. Please Lauryn Hill"

A comment I found via YouTube ... which I thought was pretty funny. Anticipating the new album ... whenever it comes.

And again ...

Let's start off the year with the typical resolutions post for me to come back a year later and see what I have achieved and failed.

In the year 2011 I will ...

  • Maintain a healthy diet and try not to over eat to the point of being comatose. Say for example, when my stomach feels full, that is where I will stop. Not when my stomach is full and I will continue eating because the food is just super tasty until I feel like regurgitating my food out. Gluttony is bad.
  • - I stuffed myself today, I totally forgot about this point.

  • Stretch. Sounds weird I know, but I am pretty ridiculous at this. I will bend down to pick up something and I can feel my legs hurting from ... not stretching enough. I guess my flexibility is pretty much fail at the moment. So I must try stretch like a dog once I wake up. I see my dog do this all the time and therefore I must follow.

  • I deactivated my Facebook for various reasons and told myself it will be temporary. ( I'm one of those creeps that tends to get lost in Facebook stalking and I keep telling myself it's just to see what my "Friends" are up to and catch up on their lives. Ha ...) So let's hope I last say, the first quarter of the year without this Social Network.

  • Exercise. Day 2 of the year and I haven't done anything besides walk to work. Must try and be more active and not let my fingers be active in the internet surfing way okay. .

  • Learn to play the guitar, once I get my freaking guitar. Being broke doesn't help.

  • Be more responsible with money. I guess eating out less might help with point 1.
  • Yeah, I ended up buying some ACNE wedges online. I am an idiot.

And that is all I can think of so far. Maybe I will come up with more resolutions later in the year. So I guess this should be my six month year resolution thing for 2011.
